Join us for a captivating one-hour lecture that journeys through the intertwined histories of Orvieto and Bolsena, two jewels of central Italy whose story forever transformed Christian devotion and sacred art. From the quiet shores of Lake Bolsena, where a miraculous event during Mass in the thirteenth century astonished believers, to the towering majesty of Orvieto’s cathedral, raised to honor that miracle, this talk will trace the path from faith to form, from wonder to worship.
Guided by Ludovica Schmidt, we will uncover how theology, architecture, and painting came together to proclaim the mystery of the Eucharist — and how these two towns became enduring symbols of the miraculous union between heaven and earth. We will also explore Orvieto itself, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy, where popes once resided and where sacred history and papal legacy still resonate through its winding streets and magnificent cathedral.

Ludovica Schmidt
Ludovica was born in Rome and fell in love with her native town in small steps. That is why she loves walking around in small steps and focus also on minor aspects of it such as inscriptions, sacred images, fountains... What usually happens is that a small or less known aspect of Rome pushes her literally to start a detective search because what she really likes, in fact, is studying. Curiosity is the fuel that fed her path of education: she has a degree from the University of Rome La Sapienza in History of Christianism and a Diploma in Religious Sciences from the Pontifical Gregorian University, while she increased her knowledge in History of Art to share her enthusiasm while leading tours as licensed guide of Rome and the Vatican.
